Long Leave Policy
Our intention with any leave policy is to ensure a smoother experience for students and a manageable impact from our end due to leaves. With this in mind, we are releasing the following a long leave policy in addition to the existing leave policy. This is NOT a replacement for previous policy, but rather an addition to it. It addresses the genuine need for long leaves for faculty while also managing the impact on students.
Definition
When a teacher is unavailable for more days than the number of available leave credits on their dashboard.
What is the Base limit and Max limit?
The base limit is the time period during which no penalty is implemented, and the Max limit is the time period until which Faculty still has the employment or that means, beyond which Faculty is considered relieved/ terminated/ resigned.
Eligibility criteria
All long leaves are applicable only if the faculty has been in the system for at least three months or has at least five active paid students, whichever is earlier. For less than 3 months or 5 students, there is no long leave necessary or possible for the faculty and the faculty should be able to utilise the leave credits from the dashboard only.
Long leaves are not allowed for new teachers because they are on probation (less than active paid students). If teachers still take a leave, they are either penalised based on the number of classes cancelled or relieved.
Procedure to apply
To be applied 1 week in advance, unless there are emergencies.
Fill the Leave application from the staffroom dashboard.
Upload the required documents if necessary. This is Mandatory for Maternity Leave, Medical Emergency and Exam Leave.
Your leave will be reviewed and approved/denied by the Academy OPs, and emails will be sent to notify you within 24 hours.
Additional clauses
Leave credits would be exhausted based on the number of class leaves taken from your available pool of credits. There will be no penalty within the base limit. Penalties in excess of the base limit will be imposed as necessary.
Example: A teacher has 14 credits available to her/him while taking a 10-day long leave of examination. She requires 24 credits to apply for long leave, of which 16 are consumed within the base limit for examination, which is 7 days. The teacher will be exempted for two leave credits (16 base limit-14 available) and a penalty of eight credits will be imposed. However, because the days are still within the Max limit, the teacher is retained and can return to BrightChamps as a faculty member.
All leaves will request permission from parents for a substitute teacher. Only cases of less than 21 days will be considered for students to re-transfer to the original faculty.
Any leave of more than 21 days will result in a complete transfer of students to a new faculty, with no guarantee of re-transfer to the original faculty. Although we will support the faculty who are joining back to the best of our ability, in giving new students to deserving faculty based on their performance and the availability of the students at that point in time.
If the parents prefer the substitute faculty over the original faculty, a PTM would be arranged and negotiated to retain the original faculty for the student once the teacher returns from the long leave.
If the parents prefer the substitute faculty over the original one for substituted classes greater than three, no PTM would be scheduled, and the students would continue with the substitute faculty.
Frequently asked questions
Q: How often can I take a long leave?
A: While there is no set frequency within which you can take a long leave, we encourage teachers to be responsible while applying for the same. The team reserves the right to deny a long leave, in cases of no emergencies, if you have already recently taken a long leave.
Long leaves can hamper the paid class experience and hence teachers are encouraged to be mindful about the same.
